In the past few weeks, my group and I have been working on our Creative Engineering Design project. Our goal was to engineer solutions to major problems in the world today. A few examples of problems were; tangled ear buds, severe drought, pollution, etc. Our goal was to put an end to gang violence. We came up with a few ideas such as a fingerprint gun firing mechanism, various gun tags, or even more effective tools for law enforcement. Our final idea was a GPS chip, which would be installed into the safety mechanism of the gun once it is produced. This would allow law enforcement to track down where a firearm was fired as well as track the suspect if they still have the gun on them. If the GPS was removed, it would permanently enable the safety mechanism rendering the gun useless. This idea, in theory, would reduce crime rates all over the world.
In order to understand more about gang violence and how a gun functions, we researched both topics for about 1 week. I learned how the firing mechanism works in order to know where to place our permanent safety mechanism We also did a lot of research on various gang violence to determine the most effective way of preventing it.
We used the Engineering Design Cycle to effectively complete our task.
1. Identify the need 1. We chose gang activity as our need
2. Research the problem 2. We researched guns, gangs, gun violence and statistics
3. Develop possible solutions 3. We conjured up the tracking device idea
4. Select the most promising solution 4. We chose the tracking idea/Gps
5. Construct a prototype 5. Using 123design, we created a virtual prototype
6. Test and evaluate the prototype 6. We evaluated the design on the program
7. Communicate the design 7. We created a presentation and we pitched our idea to the class
8. Redesign 8. We redesigned our model throughout the 5 weeks
Here is our finished product:

Reflection
I had a great time during this project and had a fantastic time working with my group. We worked very well together and had little to no conflicts within ourselves. We had good communication which helped the project be completed with ease. Something that did not go very well with the project was focus. We were distracted a lot with side conversations which stalled our work. During this project I discovered things about myself. I learned that I am very good with researching. I found the information that I needed quickly. I also learned that I am not good at staying focused. It was very hard trying to stay on track with the distrations that the other team members brought (Madden Mobile). Next time I will try to limit my distractions. I learned that I am good at giving directions as well. When someone needed something to do, I told them to do something that was proactive. On the next project I will work on not procrastinating on my work like the website update or the presentation. Two pits from this project were the lack of focus because of outside topics and procrastination with our work. Two peaks from this project were the communication of our ideas and the presentation. Overall, I had a great time completing this project.
